Social Marketing for the Entertainment Entrepreneur

Let’s talk about social media from an entrepreneur’s point of view.  With millions of users on a daily basis, it would be a bad business decision not to utilize social media.  Alexandra Wheeler, Digital Director at Starbucks gave an interesting presentation on the influence of social media (http://blip.tv/file/3866406).  Knowing that social media appears to be driving our society, I’d like to offer 3-Tips that will assist you in using your social media platforms in meeting your marketing goals.  In no way is this an exhaustive list.  These are my favorite platforms.  I have set up several social media accounts but these are the ones that I have found the most useful to me in my business endeavors.

1.  Create a Fan Page:  Fan pages have become a big hit for individual companies as well as artists and bands. In addition to the tremendous accessibility that is gained by having an account on one of the most used sites to date, fan pages offer extremely useful statics.  You can track daily users, site visits, and much more.

2.  Utilize Facebook Ads:  Once you know your target market, Facebook makes it very easy to reach them.  At a very competitive price you can market your album, song, or other artistic expression to the exact people you intend to reach.

3. Use the Site REGULARLY:  I know that social media can be very addictive and time consuming.  However, it is very useful.  People and the things they use Facebook for change very frequently.  If you are not on the News Feed then you can easily fall to the background.  The more you use the site, the more people will see you.  The more they see you, the more likely they will use you.

1. GAIN FOLLOWERS:  It almost seems too obvious to be listed; however, the way twitter works, if you don’t have followers then no one really sees your tweets.  You want to market you product or services to someone so talk to people and actively gain followers.

2.  Use the Site REGULARLY:  This is another site that requires frequent usage.  The timeline of each user can be cluttered with so much information.  If you are trying to promote your song, so are thousands of other users.  Visibility is important so you have to actually use your account (unless you are already a celebrity).

3.  Use Marketing Games and Giveaways:  People love to get things for free.  However, people are starting to be afraid of the word FREE.  In social media, free raises an eyebrow if there is nothing that the user has to do.  Be creative and intentional in your efforts to drive people to your site and into your store.  Whatever you give away should drive people back to your business for future business.
